It’s been a while since I blogged, but I’m using this quarantine time to get back into journaling and blogging. It’s a great way to keep both you and me entertained. You might feel like you’ve missed a lot, but I’ll try to fill in the gaps as we go along. In the meantime, stay safe and keep washing your hands.
So, we’re at Day 40 now. Today, one of my sites got hacked. Ugh, it’s frustrating. It’s not my main site, but I still make money from it. The hack means angry advertisers because their ads aren’t showing.
Another annoying thing about getting hacked is that it breaks all the links to your site. Other websites that link back to you might remove those links if they find them broken, which is frustrating after all the time spent networking to get those backlinks.
I use Big Scoots for hosting. Usually, I like them, but the last time I got hacked, they charged me to clean up and move my sites to separate servers, then upgraded my plan. Now, I’ve been hacked again, and it feels like all that was pointless.
I’m a bit confused about what hosting services are supposed to do. If you store physical stuff and it gets damaged, the storage company compensates you. But with online content, they charge you, and you’re not any safer afterward. It’s pretty baffling.
This time, I hired someone else to clean up the mess, but he didn’t do a great job either. There were still some suspicious files after he was done. Once it was “good enough” for Big Scoots to put me back online, I moved on because my energy is limited.
